NEW BERN - Bertha Ireland Tardanico, 69, died Thursday, April 7 at Craven 
Regional Medical Center. 
She was born January 3, 1936 in Hobucken, daughter of the late Nathaniel 
Ireland and Edna Mason Ireland.
Mrs. Tardanico was a devoted, loving mother, grandmother, best friend and 
was the rock of her family. She devoted her life to her children and 
grandchildren unselfishly and will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, 
Francis "Frank" Tardanico on September 2, 1965 and a brother, Alfred 
Ireland.
She is survived by one son, Frank Tardanico of New Bern; four daughters, 
Veronica "Sue" Molloy and husband, Phil, of Hubert, Theresa Hewson and 
husband, Paul, of Pollocksville, Deborah Lewis and husband, Lon of New Bern, 
and Lisa Needham and husband, Roger, of new Bern; three brothers, James 
Mason of La Batre, AL, Tillman Ireland of Lowland and Charlie Ireland of 
Hobucken; two sisters, Lillie Swindell of New Bern and Nancy Rhoden of 
Hobucken; nine grandchildren, Shane Malone, Angel Sanders, Philip Molloy 
IV, Kimberly Needham, Roger "T.J." Needham, Luke Lewis, Joshua Lewis, 
Joseph Lewis and Ethan Hewson; and two great-grandchildren, Catie Hojan 
and Emily Sanders.
A graveside service was held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 10 in Barnett 
Cemetery in Hobucken with the Rev. Larry Barnhill officiating. 
The family received friends at Bryant Funeral Home from 7:00 pm until 8:00 
pm on Saturday, April 9.
