PINNACLE - Mr. Bobby Ray Hancock, age 75, passed away on Friday, June 3,
2011, at his home.
He was born on November 22, 1935, in Pamlico County to the late Joseph Ira
and Mattie Price Hancock. Mr. Hancock was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from
which he retired in 1975. He had proudly served in the Korean and Vietnam
Wars. He was also a commercial fisherman and long distance truck driver.
Mr. Hancock was a member of the VFW Pilot Mountain Post 9436 and the Mount
Airy American Legion Post 2019. He was a member of the Messianistic faith.
Mr. Hancock is survived by his loving wife, Elna Fay Hancock; one sister,
Janis Mayer of Rutherton; two brothers, Roy Hancock of Grantsboro and Joe
Hancock of Newport; four children, Teri Lynn Way of Greensboro, Keith
Hancock of Brooksville, Fla., Glen Hancock of Tallahassee, Fla. and
Jonathan Hancock of Tampa, Fla.; four stepchildren, Nita H. Lee of
Reelsboro, Windy Hawkins of Newman, Ga., Sandy Purvis of Mt. Olive, and
Johnnie R. Holton of Westfield; seven grandchildren; five
step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hancock was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Janis
Lavern Hancock; and two grandsons, Carlisle Purvis and Thomas Kiner.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at the
Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, with full military honors.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m.
at Cox-Needham Funeral Home.
