Carena Leora Saunders Mercer, 48, a native of Oriental, died Tuesday, July 
15 at UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco, CA. 
A Funeral service was held Tuesday, July 22 at Evergreen Mortuary, San 
Francisco, CA with burial in the Mercer Family Cemetery.  
She was a member of Pilgrim Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Oriental 
and served in the US Army.  
She is survived by her husband, Sean Mercer of the home; two sons, Matthew 
A. Mercer and Ashton L. Mercer of the home; one daughter, Sherena L. 
Mercer of the home; her mother, Maggie Jenkins Saunders of Oriental; 
father, Clinton Saunders, Sr. of Oriental; two brothers, Clinton Saunders, 
Jr. of Alliance and Tyrone M. Saunders of Oakland, CA; and one sister, 
Delores Gibbs of Oriental.
