BAYBORO - Caroline Cowell Godwin, 80, died Monday, May 21, 2007, at Craven
Regional Medical Center.
She was born September 30, 1926, the daughter of the late John W. Cowell
Sr., and Cassie Bennett Cowell.
She was a dedicated member of Bethany Christian Church, where she was very
active in Circle No. 4, as well as other events at the church. She had been treasurer for the church’s memorial fund, and helped with the memorial stained glass windows. She was the “Caroline” of Camp Caroline at Dawsons Creek, named for her by her parents. She was present and honored at the 50th anniversary of Camp Caroline several years ago. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W. Troy Godwin Sr.; her brother, John W. Cowell Jr.; two nephews, Jeffrey Francis Cowell and Mark Roger Cowell and his wife, Carla; and brother-in-law, Dudley Ross Coppage. She is survived by her children, Cynthia Caroline Godwin and friend, Dan Unkefer, of Raleigh, Deborah D. Godwin and husband, Alan R. Williams, of Bayboro, and William (Bill) T. Godwin Jr., and wife, Debra, of New Bern; one sister, Cassie May Coppage of New Bern; sister-in-law, Hannah M. Cowell of Bayboro; three grandchildren, Alison Caroline Williams of Raleigh, Christopher E. Lee and Andrew S. Lee, both of Wilmington; nieces and nephews, John W. Cowell III, and wife, Glynis, of Chapel Hill, Patricia
Cowell Morris and husband, Marvin, of Semora, Keith D. Cowell and wife,
Gloria, of Bayboro, Caroline Brown of Sanford, Ann Coppage of New Bern,
Susan Perritt and husband, Lytton, of Charlotte, Sandra Faulkner and
husband, Bobby, of Dawsons Creek, Ross Coppage and wife, Wanda, of Raleigh,
Candace Pearce of Greenville, Miranda J. Pearce of Wilmington, Kay Black,
Kara Black and Kathy Black, all of Chesapeake, Va.; and many great-nieces
and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethany Christian Church with the Revs.
Gary Edge and Jerry Burton officiating. Burial will follow at Greenleaf
Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant Funeral
Home.
