ORIENTAL - Carrie Mason Curtis, 94, a resident of Oriental for 90 years, 
died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at the home of 
her son, James Curtis, in Charlotte.
She was born on March 4, 1912, in Brown’s Creek, Carteret County, to the 
late Jim Mason and Ada Lynch Mason.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl 
Curtis; and sisters, Mrs. Glenn Woodard and Mrs. Dallas Spruill.
She is survived by her son, James Curtis; her daughter, Barbara Smith of 
Charlotte; five grandchildren, Steve Smith, Debbie Smith and Lisa Sloan, 
all of Charlotte, Mike Smith of Clayton and Jim Curtis of Boston, Mass.; 
and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 26, 2006, at 
Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Ray Conner of Newport 
officiating. Burial will follow at Oriental Cemetery. The family will 
receive friends and acquaintances at Bryant Funeral Home on Friday night 
between 7 and 9 p.m.
