ORIENTAL - Carroll Allen Cowell Jr., 78, died Sunday, April 4, 2010, at 
Carolina East Medical Center.
He served in the U.S. Navy and retired from Texas Gulf Phosphate Company.
He is survived by his wife, Iris Cowell of the home; two sons, Guy Cowell 
and Vernon Cowell of Oriental; three stepsons, Donald Smithwick and Craig 
Smithwick of Oriental and Phillip Reyes of New Bern; three brothers, Steve 
Cowell of Washington State, Timothy Cowell and Frank Cowell of Reelsboro; 
two sisters, Connie Lewis of Roseboro and Laura Simpson of Bayboro; six 
grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Cowell 
Cemetery in Alliance with the Rev. Merritt Watson officiating. Visitation 
will follow the service.
Arrangements are by Bryant Funeral Home & Cremations, Alliance.
