Charlie Griffin Miller, 87, of 319 Butler St., St. Matthews, died Saturday,
Sept. 11, 2004, at his residence.  
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 13, at First Baptist
Church, St. Matthews, with the Rev. Dr. Thomas B. Huggins and the Rev. 
James Alewine officiating. Burial will be in West End Cemetery.  
Pallbearers will be Charles Coleman, Randy Coleman, Jimmy Arant, Mike 
Murrin, Kirby Bridwell, John Traylor, Drury Ghegan, Al Murrin and Tom 
Parker.  
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bobby Gressette Sunday School 
class.  
Mr. Miller was born in Alliance, N.C., a son of the late Charlie Daniel 
and Mary Blanche Cooper Miller. He served in the CC Camps in Soil 
Conservation projects. He served in the U.S. Civil Engineers in Greenville,
Charleston and Savannah. 
He also served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in World War II. Mr. Miller joined 
Hicklin Motor Lines after his discharge from active duty and rose to the 
position of Vice President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of 
Hicklin Miller Motor Lines. He retired in 2000. He was a member of First 
Baptist Church and of the Bobby Gressette Sunday School class. He was a 
past Master of Izlar Masonic Lodge 177 and was a Shriner, member of Omar 
Temple for 50 years. He was a member of the South Carolina Trucking 
Association. Mr. Miller was predeceased by his first wife, Agnes Crosland 
Miller.  
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Patricia McCravy Miller, of the home; two 
sons and daughters-in-law, Griffin Miller (Sandra), of St. Matthews, and 
Gene Miller (Jean), of St. Matthews; three daughters, Mrs. Rod (Gail) 
Shattuck, of Englewood, Colo., Miss Elaine Miller, of Sumter, and Ms. 
Martha Rickard, of Sumter; two stepsons, Michael S. McClary (Debra), of 
Lexington, and James B. McClary (Kerri), of Chapin; one brother, Austin 
Miller, of Bayboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Mrs. Tom (Amy) Parker, of Mount 
Pleasant, Miss Leigh Ann Shattuck, of Boston, Mrs. John (Laura) Traylor, 
of Asheville, N.C., Eddie Miller (Rachel), of St. Matthews, Douglas 
Shattuck (Kelly), of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Kirby (Emily) Bridwell, of 
Taylors, and Miss Allison Rickard, of Roswell, Ga.; three step-
grandchildren, Miss Jessica McClary, of Folly Beach, Casey McClary, of 
Lexington, and Sidney Rohrig, of Chapin; great-grandchildren, Grace and 
Shane Parker, Bryce Bridwell, Porter Shattuck, and Olivia Belle Traylor.  
Friends may call at the residence and Dukes-Harley Funeral Home.
