Christina "Christy" Lee Voliva, 46, of Hobucken, left this life to begin
anew, pain and worry free, on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009.
She was born in Marathon, Fla., to Thomas Austin and Carol Sadler Voliva
on July 22, 1962. Christy's first few years of life were filled with
sunshine, sand and water. Raised on Goose Creek Island, in the Hobucken
and Lowland communities, further endeared her to a life on the water and
a lasting relationship with the commercial fishing industry and those
involved in it.
In her young adult years, Christy's love and knowledge of the commercial
seafood industry took her to the southernmost point of the United States
Key West, Fla., where she chose to make her home, and then on to Freeport,
Texas, for several years. Her career path took her up and down the
Southeastern Seaboard, but her family ties eventually brought her back
home to settle.
Always ready and willing to rally for the underdog, Christy built many
long and lasting friendships based on that concept. She gave freely to
those in need whenever possible, whether monetary, a meal, a place to rest,
a shoulder or an ear. That was her nature.
Christy was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Austin Voliva; maternal
grandparents, Sherwood and Irene Williamson Sadler; and paternal
grandparents, Henry and Wera Rice Voliva.
She is survived by her son, Justin Henry Long of Bayboro; two grandchildren,
who were the apples of her eye, Austin and Allen Long of Bayboro; her
mother and stepfather, Edward and Carol Whitfield of Hobucken; her sister
and brother-in-law, Terry and Pam Hannah of Lowland; her sister, Deborah
Edwards of Bayboro; nieces, Alexis Ireland, Kristen Lee, Brittany Moore
Krelie and Gilean Moore; and one nephew, Coty Hannah.
A celebration of Christy's life will be held at Bryant Funeral Home at 3
p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2009, with the Rev. Earl Sadler Jr. and Brother
Jasper Voliva officiating.
We encourage you to bring your memories and any mementos to share with the
family.
Arrangements are by Bryant Funeral Home & Cremations, Alliance.
