GRANTSBORO - Clifton Earl Stowe, 84, died Monday, March 14, 2011, at home 
with his family at his side.  
He was a member of Silverhill Christian Church where he served as a deacon,
elder, chairman of the board and Sunday school teacher. He was the first 
mayor of Grantsboro serving from 1997 until 2010. He was also on the 
Pamlico County Planning Board for 20 years. He served as a board member 
for Bay River Metropolitan Sewer District and Partnership for Children of 
Pamlico County. 
He was one of the first members of the Grantsboro Volunteer Fire Department
and was a member of the Bayboro Masonic Lodge No. 331.  
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Day Stowe and his 
daughter, Lynnette Stowe Potter.  
He is survived by his wife, Palmer S. Stowe; daughter, Vannah S. Holton 
and husband, Terry, of Grantsboro; three stepchildren, Danny Piner and 
wife, Connie, of Zebulon, Dennis R. Piner and wife, Chris, of Pace, Fla., 
and Gay A. Cook and husband, Ronnie, of Wilson; three grandsons, Wayne 
Holton of Grantsboro, Ryan Holton and wife, Shannon, of Greenville, and 
Travis Potter of Grantsboro; seven great-grandchildren; seven step-
grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.  
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, March 17, at Bryant 
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Amos Sykes and the Rev. Henry 
Wetherington officiating. 
Interment will follow in Paul Cemetery, Silverhill.  
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday night at 
Bryant Funeral Home.
