Clyde Taylor Simmons, 69, retired supervisor for The Washington Star and a
Washington resident for the past 60 years, died of a heart attack Saturday
while fishing on the Rappahannock River in Topping, Va.
Born in Bayboro, N.C., Mr. Simmons moved here with his family at an early
age. He graduated from Armstrong High School.
He began working for the Washington Star in 1935 and was a supervisor of
paper handlers when he retired in 1975 for reasons of health. He was a
member of the Van Buren United Methodist Church in Washington and a former
member of the Ebnezer United Methodist Church here.
Survivors include his wife, Ada B., of Washington; a son, Maurice C., of
Charlottesville; five sisters, Nicey Reavies, Juanita B. Brown, Eula M.
Gainous and Venus E. Simmons, all of Washington, and Emma V. Limber of
Victorville, Calif., and a brother, David C. Simmons of Wasilla, Alaska.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of
contributions to the Van Buren United Methodist Church Building Fund, 35
Van Buren St., NW, Washington, or to the American Heart Association.
