Obituary of Dewey Irwin Banks ~ 2009

Dewey Irvin Banks, 75, of the Florence community, passed away at his
Reelsboro residence Friday, February 6, 2009, with family by his side
following a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Dewey was known by many as "Capt. D.I." for his quick wit and passion for
work. Prior to a brief stint with retirement, he owned and operated D.I.
Banks Electric, Inc. of New Bern and DIB Enterprises, Inc. He was a
longstanding recognized member of the Electrical Apparatus Service
Association (EASA).
In addition to his parents, Stephen M. and Ina McDaniel Banks of the Cove
City community, he was predeceased by his brother, Dr. Thomas Banks of
Pompano Beach, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Rice Banks; two sons, Dennis
Banks and wife, Connie, of Reelsboro and Thomas Banks of New Bern; three
daughters, Ann Savage and husband, Mark, of Florence, Kathy Warren of New
Bern, and Barbara Behrend and husband, Doug, of Goldsboro; two sisters,
Katherine Brittingham of Virginia Beach, Va., and Geraldine Allen and
husband, Tom, of Indian Harbour Beach, Florida; 10 grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 8, at Bryant
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Roach officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the
funeral home.
A special thank you to all the wonderful staff of Home Health Hospice
Services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American
Cancer Society , 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C. 27834 or a charity
of one's choice.
