ARAPAHOE - Don Elbert Lee, Jr., 69, died September 25, 2006 at his
residence with his family by his side.
Don was a devoted husband, father, son and granddad. An extraordinary man
that impacted countless lives, his work and leadership in some ways has
affected nearly everyone in the Pamlico County Community.
Don's leadership was exemplified in many ways. He was co-owner of Don Lee
Farms. He was a past President of North Carolina Soybean Producers
Association as well as Director for North Carolina on American Soybean
Association's National Board. He served on First Citizens Bank Advisory
Board. He was a former farm agency director.
He was a former Pamlico County Commissioner. He also helped form the
Arapahoe Volunteer Fire Department.
Don was a dedicated life-time member of Bethany Christian Church where he
served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Chairman of the Board of
Elder's for 13 years and as a Trustee.
Don was born to Dewey Brinson Lee and Don E. Lee, Sr. on June 17, 1937 in
Arapahoe, NC, where he lived until he graduated from Pamlico County High
School in 1955. Don later received the Alumni Achievement Award from
Atlantic Christian College (Barton College) in Wilson where he had g
raduated with a B.S. in Business with honors in 1959.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Marylin Grace
Lee and Ann Marie Lee.
Don is survived by his wife, Barbara Barefoot Lee; son, Done E. Lee, III
and wife, Susan of Arapahoe; two daughters, Diana Lee Rowland and husband,
Steve of High Point, and Debra Lee of Arapahoe; brother, Jack R. Lee and
wife, Gladys of Arapahoe; two sisters, Iris Lee Jones of New Bern, and
Rose Lee Cooke and husband, Charlie of Virginia Beach; and five
grandchildren, Chance Lee, Parker Lee, Lindsey Lee, Canyon Rowland and
Tucker Rowland.
Funeral will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Bethany Christian Church with
Rev. Merritt Watson, Rev. Penny Dollar Farmer, and Rev. Gary Edge
officiating. Burial will be in Don Lee Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Bryant Funeral Home, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday
night.
The family asks those who prefer to make memorial donations do so to
Bethany Christian Church or Hospice of Craven County.
