Dorothy May Prescott Luck of Arapahoe, N.C. passed away on March 27, 2004
at Craven Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Luck was born in Grantsboro, N.C. on November 5, 1922 and graduated
from Alliance High School. In 1946, she married William R. Luck, Jr. (Lt.
Col. USMC, Ret.). They lived in numerous places throughout their careers
before retiring to Minnesott Beach in 1972.
Mrs. Luck received many awards for her volunteer work and participation in
the Cherry Point Garden Club, Garden Club of the Oriental Woman's Club,
Federated Women's Clubs, Oriental Woman's Club, Pamlico County Republican
Women and Tryon Palace Council of Friends.
She spent many years decorating both Tryon Palace and the Governor's
Mansion in Raleigh, N.C. for Christmas. In 1992 she received the Order of
the Long Leaf Pine from Governor James Martin for her volunteer work at
the Mansion. Her work was featured in the 1992 "Southern Living Christmas
Book" and "NC Home Magazine." Mrs. Luck was also an accomplished pianist.
She was a member of both the Rock of Zion Free Will Baptist Church of
Grantsboro and Arapahoe United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Luck was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Luck, Jr. (Lt.
Col. USMC, Ret.), and one son, Robert P. Luck.
She is survived by three daughters, Betsy Luck of Arapahoe, Barbara Luck
of Keezletown, VA and Kathryn Steele of Boise, ID; one son-in-law; one
granddaughter; one grandson; one brother; two sisters-in-law; and many
nieces and nephews. Her mother also survives.
Visitation was held Thursday, April 1 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Bryant
Funeral Home in Alliance, N.C. The funeral service was held at Bryant
Funeral Home on Friday, April 2 at 11:00 am, followed by her burial in the
National Cemetery of New Bern, N.C.
