Mrs. Dorothy Marie Carrow Boyd Taylor, a resident of 2624 Montfort Drive
in Lake Charles, Louisiana left this life to enter the presence of her
Lord on Sun., May 23, 2010.
She died peacefully at home with her devoted husband, Carl Taylor, by her
side. She faced cancer the same way she faced life ... with no fear and
plenty of prayer. She was 74.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sun., May 30th at the River
City Christian Center at 3806 River Road in Washington, NC and will be
officiated by Dr. Daniel Robertson.
The family will receive friends at the church from 2 to 3 prior to the
service. “Dot” was born in Edward, North Carolina on February 19, 1936,
the daughter of the late Hardy Roberson Carrow, Sr. and the late Rachel
Odessa Williams Carrow. She attended Aurora High School. She was married
to Olbert Mason Boyd, Sr. from 1952 until 1981.
She worked for a number of years at Beaufort County Hospital where she
earned a reputation as a dedicated and conscientious worker. She left
Beaufort County in 1981 and lived a brief time in Venezuela.
She married Carl Benjamin Taylor in Houston, Texas on October 7, 1983.
They made their home in Lake Charles, LA until her death. “Dot” was a
fantastic cook. She had a passion for serving others, whether her family,
friends, co-workers or her church family. The Taylor’s church was paramount
in both of their lives and they served God faithfully in the Murray Street
Baptist Church of Lake Charles, LA. (now East Ridge Baptist) for 23 years.
Dot was active there as a Sunday school teacher, a substitute Grandma to
many little ones, and a prayer warrior. She loved the Lord with all her
heart, soul and mind. She had a deep appreciation for beautiful flowers
and trees and considered them gifts from God. She had a “green thumb”
which resulted in her always immaculate yard.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Carl, of the home; her daughter,
Gail Boyd Ambrose and husband Galin, of Bath, NC; her son, Olbert Mason
Boyd, Jr. (Bert) and wife Paula, of Washington, NC; 5 step-daughters:
Carla Ward and husband, Brad of Washington, NC; Monica Hall and husband,
Doug of Temecula, CA; Trish Carlton and husband, Larry of Marion, VA; Kay
Perry and husband, Michael of Monroe, NC; and Mandy Rogerson and husband,

Roberson; and 3 grand-sons, Lyn Billups, Allen Dale Boyd, and Burton Clay
