Obituary of Edward D. Thompson ~ 2002

ORIENTAL - Edward D. Thompson, 77, died Thursday at Craven Regional Medical
Center. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Oriental. Mr. Thompson 
was a veteran of World War II, where he served with the Navy medical corps 
at Omaha Beach, Okinawa and the North China Campaign. He also was an 
artillery officer in the National Guard.  He graduated from Atlantic 
Christian College in Wilson and received his masters degree in school 
administration from East Carolina University. He spent 38 years educating 
young people. He had served as principal at Oriental Elementary School, 
Stonewall Elementary School and Fred A. Anderson Elementary School. He 
also served eight years with the Pamlico County Board of Education.
In addition, he was on the first board of directors of Minnesott Golf and 
Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betsy in 1990.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl E. Thompson of Fairfax, VA, Susan 
T. Maier and her husband Commander, David Maier of California, MD; two 
grandsons, Zachary D. Maier and Andrew R. Maier; numerous nieces and 
nephews.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Oriental 
with Rev. Murray Ethridge officiating. 
Burial will follow in Oriental Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Bryant Funeral Home 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday
and other times at the home.
