Deceased Veteran to be Honored:
Dear Editor:
The Pamlico County Veterans Council is honored to be able to pay tribute to
our deceased veterans. On the second Saturday of each month the Veterans 
Council will conduct a brief Memorial Ceremony and raise the American flag 
in honor of one of our deceased veterans. The ceremony will take place at 
the flag pole in front of the courthouse at 10:00 a.m.
The ceremony on December 14 will be in honor of Mr. Elmo Frederick 
Midyette. Mr. Midyette was born on September 17, 1918 in Hobucken. 
He grew up in the Bayboro area where he attended school and worked with 
local farmers. He worked as a commercial fisherman for C.M. Muse Fish 
Company in the community of Pamlico from 1939 to 1941. Mr. Midyette 
enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 8, 1941 at Fort Bragg, N.C. He served 
with the 246th Field Artillery Battalion, American Division in the Asiatic 
Pacific Theater from March 4, 1942 until May 10, 1944.
