Floyd Thomas Ireland Sr, 63, of New Bern died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, at 
Craven Regional Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Eula Ireland; brothers
Royce and Robert Ireland; and grandson Frederick Ireland
Floyd was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Bern and had a very
deep faith in the Lord. He was a "jack of all trades", who repaired things
for friends and strangers alike. He fought in the Vietnam War and retired
from the US Navy after 22 years of dedicated service. He belonged to the 
VFW and the MOC. He will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his loving companion of 19 years, Alice Ey; one son. Floyd
Ireland Jr and his wife Diane; four daughters; Betty Shingleton and her husband,
Ronald, Brenda Cartagena and husband, Celeo, Margaret Ireland and companion
Calvin Johnson, and Mindy Ireland and companion, Shuan Miller Jr.; two brothers
Curtis Ireland and his wife Jean, and Herman Ireland and his wife, Mary; 
one sister Shelby Keech; 13 grandchildren; and his former wife who remained a
loving friend, Geraldine Ireland.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in
New Bern with Dr Steve Fitzgerald officiating.
