Garland A. Woodard Jr. died on Sunday, February 7, 2010. Mr. Woodard lived 
in Vandemere, North Carolina, until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1961. 
He is preceded in death by his mother, Sadie L. Edwards; father, Garland 
Woodard; stepfather, Wil-liam L Edwards; grandmother, Sadie B. Lupton; and 
grandfather, Ralph Lupton. 
He is survived by his two sons, Garland L Woodard (Woody) and Brett Joseph 
Woodard; grandson, Brett Joseph Jr.; two sisters, Sally Woodard Stanley 
and husband, Leroy, of Lynnhaven, Fla., and Nancy W. Smith and husband, 
Kenny, of Stonewall; brother, Sam Woodard of Newport; and a half-brother, 
Ralph Jay Lupton, and wife, Nancy, of Tampa, Fla. 
Mr. Woodard was a commercial fisherman and hailed out of ports in Texas, 
Key West, Fla., and Fort Myers, Fla. After 50 years, Mr. Woodard retired 
in Texas in 2007.
