Obituary of Gerald Eugene Saunders Sr ~ 2008

Gerald Eugene Saunders Sr., 82, of 20301 N,C. Hwy. 55, Oriental, died 
Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at Craven Regional Medical Center.  
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was an educator in the Pamlico 
County school system for 34 years, including 16 years as a principal. He 
attended the Pamlico County Training School, Shaw University, North 
Carolina Central University, N. C. A & T University, East Carolina 
University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned 
a B.S. degree, a master's degree and principal's and administrator 
certifications. He formerly served as financial secretary and trustee at 
Pilgrim Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and several programs within the 
New Bern Eastern Missionary Baptist Association.  
His funeral will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at New Bern 
Eastern Missionary Baptist Association Headquarters, Hwy. 306 N., 
Grantsboro, with the Rev. James Williams and the Rev. G.O. Greene Sr. 
officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Greenleaf Memorial 
Park.  
He is survived by his wife. Almeda Enoch Saunders of the home; one son, 
Gerald E. Saunders Jr. of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Amelia Denise 
Saunders of the home and Brenda Greene of Raleigh; two sisters, Gertrude 
Saunders Greene of Oriental and Grace Saunders Hudson of Arapahoe; and 
three grandchildren.  
The family will receive friends at the residence. 
Viewing will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Oscar's Mortuary and 
Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service.
