Guy L. Ireland, 72, of the 5200 block of Riverwood Road, passed away 
Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at his home.  
Mr. Ireland was born in Lowland, N.C., and was the son of the late Prince 
Edward and Bertha Clark Ireland. 
He was also predeceased by his brothers, Corbert, Chestene, Archie, 
Preston and Leo; and his sister, Dea Ireland Daniels.  Mr. Ireland was a 
veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and served on the 
Atlantic coast sub-chasers. He was formerly in sales and management at 
Bruce-Flournoy Ford and was previously the owner of Guy Ireland Motor Co. 
in Norfolk. He was formerly vice president of the Tidewater Independence 
Dealers Association. He was vice president of Ireland Barge and a charter
 member of Elizabeth Park Civic League. Mr. Ireland was president and 
owner of Ireland Marine Inc. of Chesapeake.  
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Harris Ireland; three devoted 
sons and their wives, Gregory S. Ireland and Deborah of Chesapeake, 
Lenwood B. Ireland and Robin of Virginia Beach and Jimmy G. Ireland and 
Ellen of Chesapeake; six grandchildren; a dear niece, Judy Ireland Carawan 
of Chesapeake; and numerous nieces and nephews.  
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Great Bridge Baptist 
Church with the Rev. Dick Baker and the Rev. Charles Moseley officiating.
Interment will be at 4 p.m. in Lowland Cemetery, Lowland, N.C. 
Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, is in charge.
