Obituary of Harold R Carawan ~ 2009

Today, Harold went peacefully to a better place. He was born in Mesic, NC 
son of the late Ernal and Bela Carawan. Harold graduated from Hobucken High
School and then went to work with Carolina Telephone and Telegraph. He 
retired from the company when it was known as Sprint. On April 11, 1949, 
Harold married the former Joyce Potter, who survives. Harold was a member 
of Ma-sonic Lodge #331 of Bayboro, NC and was also a member of the First 
Christian Church of Washington, NC.
In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by three children, Henry 
Carawan and wife Glenda of Bayboro, NC, Sam Carawan of Washington, NC and 
Sandy Carawan of Greenville, NC, three grandchildren, David and Michael 
Carawan of Bayboro, NC and Jeni Creviston and husband Curtis of Newport, 
NC, three great grandchildren, Samantha Carawan, Shelby and Emmie Lou 
Creviston, two sisters-in-law, Eva Carawan of Morehead City, NC and Bobbie 
Carawan of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by two brothers, 
Barden Carawan and Kerry Carawan and one sister, Kitty Cribb and her 
husband Dick.
A funeral service will be held 11:00AM Wednesday September 9, 2009 at Paul 
Funeral Home of Washington officiated by Rev. Amanda Hesbach. Burial will 
follow at 4:00PM in New Bern Memorial Cemetery New Bern, NC.
The family will greet friends on Tuesday September 8, 2009 from 6:00PM-8:00PM 
at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at the home located at 
305 Pamlico Drive, Washington, NC.
The family requests no flowers, but kindly asks that memorials be made to 
the First Christian Church Capital Campaign, 401 East 2nd Street, 
Washington, NC 27889 or to the church or charity of one's choice.
The family would like to thank all our many friends and Ridgewood Manor for
caring for Harold and the family. You have been so good to us. We love you!
