Harold Lee Caraway Sr., 88, formerly of Hedgerow Lane, Portsmouth, went to 
be with the Lord on Jan. 5, 2000.  
A native of Pamlico County, N.C., he retired as a boilermaker from the 
Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 27 years and also retired from Maryview 
Hospital after 15 years. He was a member of Nansemond River Baptist Church 
and the V.F.W. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.  
Mr. Caraway was predeceased by his wife, Anna Eliza Caraway, and a son, 
Harold L. Caraway Jr. He is survived by two daughters, Anita Miller of 
Pensacola, Fla., and Vickie Kittrell of Suffolk; a son, Robert F. Caraway 
of Chesapeake; a sister, Bertie Horton of New Bern, N.C.; four brothers, 
McDonald Caraway and Bruce Caraway, both of New Bern, James Caraway Jr. of 
Virginia Beach and Julius Caraway of Norfolk; 10 grandchildren; and three 
great-grandchildren.  
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Nansemond River Baptist Church
by the Rev. Timothy L. Piland and the Rev. G.W. Harley. Burial will be in 
Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. 
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Sturtevant 
Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, and other times at 128 Nansemond Point
Drive, Suffolk. Memorial donations may be made to the building fund of the 
church.
