GRANTSBORO- Harold Burton "Burt" Smith died at his home near Grantsboro on 
Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008.
He was born on Nov. 22, 1930, the last of four sons of Bessie and Channing 
Smith. He grew up in Pamlico County and served his country in the United 
States Army during the Korean War. When he came home, he became a 
carpenter and helped build homes in Pamlico and Craven counties.
He never married and is survived by three nieces and a nephew and their 
families, whom he loved very much: Phyllis S. Lupton and husband Larry of 
Thomasville; Pattie S. Jones and husband Raymond of New Bern; Philip E. 
Smith and wife Fran of Statesville; and Pamela Smith of New Bern.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home 
chapel, with Kenny Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Paul Cemetery 
in Silverhill.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008.
