Obituary of Hattie Thelma Jones ~ 1992

Hattie Thelma Jones, 69, of the 900 block of Tifton St., a retired teacher,
died March 2, 1992, in a hospital.  
Mrs. Jones was born in Pamlico County, N.C. She had retired from the 
Portsmouth public schools after 27 years. She was a graduate of Virginia 
State University and received her master's degree from Columbia University.
She was a member and trustee of Union United Church of Christ and a member 
of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. She was the widow of Philip M. Jones Sr.  
Survivors include two sons, Philip M. Jones and Terrence L. Jones, both of 
Norfolk; three sisters, Lenora Merritt of Oriental, N.C., Mary M. Amey of 
Philadelphia and Claretta M. Alexander of Norfolk; and three 
grandchildren.  
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Union United Church of 
Christ by the Rev. J.M. Copeland. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial 
Park. 
The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. 
Hale Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
