Mrs. Hazel Daniels Carawan, 90, of The Homestead passed away Monday, Oct. 
16, 2006, at her residence. 
She was born March 18, 1916, in Pamlico County to Lonnie and Fannie Woodard
Daniels. 
Mrs. Carawan was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; and her 
husband, Daniel Dees Carawan. 
She was a longtime resident of Siler City prior to moving to Winston-Salem.
Surviving her is a daughter, Geraldine Newton and husband Otis of Colonial 
Heights, Va.; two sons, Jerry B. Carawan and wife Peggy of Oriental, and 
Thomas R. Carawan and wife Marie of Winston-Salem; eight grandchildren; 10 
great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. 
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at 
Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City, with the Rev. Norwood Green officiating. 
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 18, at 
Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. 
The family wishes to express its appreciation to the staff at The Homestead
for the love and care shown to their mother.
