Henry R. Bess of the 2700 block of Hollister Ave., a retired crane operator,
died May 12, 1993, in his home.
Mr. Bess was born in Bayboro, N.C. He was retired from the Navy Public
Works Center after 40 years of service and was a member of New Calvary
Baptist Church, Norfolk.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bess; two daughters, Tammy Holloway and
Deborah Branch, both of Norfolk; three stepdaughters, Gail Walker of Miami,
Joy Montague of Petersburg and Michelle Gray of Norfolk; one stepson, Eric
Montague of Miami; one sister, Hettie Lockett of Norfolk; four brothers,
Ernest and William Bess, both of Norfolk, Howard Bess of Oakland, Calif.,
and George Bess of Baltimore; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m Monday in New Calvary Baptist Church,
Norfolk, by the Rev. G.G. Campbell Jr. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial
Park, Chesapeake. The family will be at the residence. The body will be
taken to the church at 11 a.m. Monday. Hale Funeral Home is handling
arrangements.
