Mr. Henry B. Carawan, 100, of Washington, N.C., formerly of Charlotte,
died June 12, 1989, at Beaufort County Hospital in Washington, N.C.
Funeral is 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, N.C.
Visitation is 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at Paul Funeral Home, Washington,
N.C.
Mr. Carawan, a Pamlico County native, retired from the Postal Service after
30 years. He also was a retired teacher. He was a charter member of the
Metrolina Shrine Club and an honorary member of Meridian Lodge in Charlotte.
He also was an honorary member of Derita, West Gate, Steele Creek, Long
Creek, Keystone, Friendship, East Gate and Excelsior Masonic lodges.
He lived in Charlotte from 1969 through 1980.
He was a certified lecturer and was district deputy grand lecturer for the
Fourth Masonic District three times. He had been district deputy grand
master for the Third Masonic District and also former secretary and
treasurer of Orr Masonic Lodge.
Survivors are his son, Henry L. Carawan of Concord; daughter, Miss Frances
Carawan of Washington, N.C.; sister, Mrs. Nita Garrett of Liberty, N.C.;
two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
