Obituary of Imogene Carawan Hancock ~ 2009

WASHINGTON - Mrs. Imogene Carawan Hancock, age 80, Beaufort County, NC went
home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 9, 2009.  
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2009 in the 
chapel of Hillside Funeral Service with Dr. Richard Sheriff officiating. 
Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.  
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, February 12 at 
Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC.  
Mrs. Hancock was born October 26, 1928 in Pamlico County. She was the 
daughter of the late Jesse Carawan, Jr. and Maude Davis Carawan. She was 
married to Amos A. Hancock, who preceded her in death September 13, 1995. 
She was a homemaker. She was a former member of Hunter’s Bridge Church of 
Christ, a member of First Baptist Church of Chocowinity, and a member of 
several senior citizens organizations. Mrs. Hancock loved life and her 
many friends.  
She is survived by three daughters, Ellen H. Bayne of Pine Level, NC, Mrs. 
Carol H. Hardison and husband, Jim of Fremont, NC and Nancy Hodges of 
Chocowinity; two sons, Kerry Hancock and wife, Denise of New Bern, NC and 
Amos Allen Hancock, Jr. and wife Alice of Charlotte, NC; two brothers, 
Jesse Monroe Carawan, III and wife Jacque of Plymouth and Leland Carawan 
and wife Charlotte of Valrico, FL; fifteen grandchildren; six great-
grandchildren; special friend, Dick Taylor and George Coghill, who she 
considered one of her own; and numerous friends and loved ones.  
Hillside Funeral Service of Washington is serving the Hancock family.
