James Anderson Collins Sr., 71, of Grantsboro died Sunday, April 13, 2008,
at Craven Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Pamlico County. He
was a graduate of Pamlico County Training School and attended Pamlico
Community College. He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years and was formerly
employed at Texas Gulf as a security guard.
The funeral will be held at noon Friday, April 18, 2008, at New Bern
Eastern Missionary Baptist Association Headquarters, N.C. Highway 306
North, with the Rev. Lawrence Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Union
Chapel Church cemetery, Grantsboro.
He is survived by his wife, Doris S. Collins of Grantsboro; one son, James
A. Collins Jr. of Grantsboro; four daughters, Patricia Riddick of
Jacksonville, Sheryl Brown of New Bern, Gertrude Cofield of Grantsboro,
and Flora Simpson of Morrisville, Pa.; two brothers, Harold Lee Collins of
Baton Rouge, La., and Ronnie Thomas of Arapahoe; two sisters, Edith Brown
and Dollie Collins of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and three great
grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 5549 Neuse Blvd., Grantsboro. Viewing
will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Oscar's Mortuary.
