Obituary of James W Martin Sr ~ 1999

James W. Martin, Sr., 79, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1999. 
A native of Pamlico County, N.C., he had been a Hampton resident since 
1940 and had retired from the Hampton VA Medical Center. Mr. Martin was a 
member of Northside Church of Christ and the Philothean Sunday School 
Class. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a 50-year member of Monitor Lodge 
No. 197 A.F.&A.M., an Army veteran of World War II, and a 50-year member 
of the American Legion Post 48.  
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Virginia M. 
Martin; and is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Doug 
Fyfe of Hampton; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Penney Martin of 
Poquoson; one sister, Belva Doornbos of Paterson, N.J.; four grandchildren 
and spouses, Kevin and Kristy Fyfe, Karen and Jimmy Dailey, Jeff and Gina 
Martin and Amanda and Mike Repke; and four great-grandchildren, Zachary 
LeMaster, Kayla LeMaster, Caroline Repke and Cameron Fyfe.  
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 
R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home by Mr. Larry Jones with interment to follow 
in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 
7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.  
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Northside Church of Christ 
Fire Recovery Fund.
