Obituary of James Berry Powers ~ 2008

James Berry Powers, 84, died on Monday, July 7 at Craven Regional Medical 
Center after an extended illness.  
James was born and lived his early life in Pamlico County. He proudly 
served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II where he was 
stationed in various European locations. After his discharge he enjoyed a 
35-year career with the Maola Milk and Ice Cream Company. Before his 
illness, he was an avid sports fan, an excellent gardener and a long-time 
member of Trinity United Methodist Church.  
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Charlotte Powers.  
James is survived by a daughter, Jane Archer and husband David of Roanoke 
Rapids, N.C., a daughter, Ruth Powers of New Bern, and a son, Jim Powers 
and wife Amanda of Sanford, N.C. He is also survived by three loving 
grandchildren, Matthew Archer, Jason Powers and Sarah Powers.   
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at the 
Lakeside Chapel at Greenleaf Memorial Park with Rev. Charlene Pierce-Guider
and Rev. Robert Shields officiating.  
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
