GREENVILLE - Mr. Joseph Donald "Joe" Squires, 90, of Greenville, passed 
away Monday, May 8, 2006.  
The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the 
Wilkerson Funeral Home chapel in Greenville. Burial will follow in 
Pinewood Memorial Park.  
Joe was born in the Black Jack community of Pitt County and spent his 
early childhood in the Grantsboro community of Pamlico County.  
In early adulthood, he returned to Pitt County and worked as a carpenter. 
He served in the Army, 28th Division, from 1943 to 1945 during World War 
II in the European theatre and received the Purple Heart.  
He worked with W.L. Allen Oil for more than 30 years and ran Squires Gulf 
Station in downtown Greenville.  
A member of Arlington Boulevard Baptist Church for more than 30 years, he 
had served as a Deacon and was a member of the men's Bible class.  
In retirement, Joe enjoyed working in the church, in the yard and 
gardening. His love of fishing was well known.  
Joe is survived by his wife of 69 years, Martie Mills Squires, currently 
of Beverly Healthcare; sons, Charles D. Squires and wife Carol of 
Washington and Joseph Ray Squires and wife Janice of Rocky Mount; 
daughter, Allene Horne and husband Sam of St. Pauls; five grandchildren; 
and three great-grandchildren.  
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Wilkerson 
Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Charles and Carol Squires, 
4956 Old Washington Road, Washington.

Arlington Blvd., Greenville, NC 27858.
