BAYBORO - Johnnie B. Lewis Sr., 99, of 610 Mill Pond Road, died Saturday,
April 24, 2010, at Britthaven of Pamlico.
He was ordained as a minister and served as assistant pastor of the Holy
Church of God in Christ Jesus of Alliance, rising to the rank of bishop.
He was formerly employed at Cherry Point air station, Texas Gulf, and in
the home construction industry as a cement finisher.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oscar's Memorial Chapel, with
Percy Cook Skin-ner and the Rev. Brenda Farrow officiating. The interment
will be in the Alliance Holy Church of God Cemetery.
He is survived by his six sons, Joseph Lewis of Columbus, Ohio, Huddie
Lewis of Pascagoula, Miss., Johnny Green of New Bern, Michael V. Quarlets
of Greenville, Phillip K. Quarles of Al-bany, N.Y., and Brian A. Quarles
of the home; three daughters, Elema Lee Pearson of Alliance, Akira Lewis
of the home and Doreen Smerichniak of Amityville, N.Y.; six brothers,
Thomas Credle, Horace Credle of New York, William Earl Credle of Georgia,
Delmus Credle and Fred Credle of Virginia and Dowan Credle of Bayboro;
three sisters, Ruby Monk of Bayboro, Mildred Lee of New York and Lillian
George of Boston, Mass.; 85 grandchildren; 205 great-grandchildren; 265
great-great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Oscar's Memorial
Chapel and visitation of friends from 6 to 7 p.m.
Arrangements are by Oscar's Mortuary Inc.
