Obituary of John D Riggs ~ 2011

John D. Riggs, 88, of Akins in Craven County passed away on Christmas Eve, 
Dec. 24.  
Mr. Riggs was a native of the Florence Community in Pamlico County and a 
veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired as an aircraft mechanic 
and commercial fisherman. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of 
Latter Day Saints.  
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Lois Buck Riggs; three children, John 
D. Riggs Jr. and wife Linda of Florence, Barbara Riggs Barnhardt and 
husband Tony of Rockwell, and Lori Riggs Duzan and husband, Charlie of 
Antioch Road, New Bern; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 6 p.m. at the 
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located on Forest Drive in 
Trent Woods with Bishop Brent Norman officiating.  
Services are entrusted to Hardee Mortuary Service, Wilmington.
