Obituary of Joyce Simpson Powers Golden ~ 2010

GRANTSBORO - Joyce Simpson Powers Golden, 81, of the Silver Hill Community,
went home to be with her Lord, July 19, 2010.  
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Forrest Powers and Bill Golden 
and two sons, Matthew and Steve Powers. 
She is survived by four sons, Mike Powers and wife, Sandy, of Grantsboro, 
Paul Powers and wife, Wanda, of New Bern, Andrew Powers and wife, Tricia, 
of Spring Garden, and Frank Powers and wife, Chrisanne, of New Bern; one 
daughter, Patti Kafton and husband, John, of Kentucky; three stepchildren, 
Jeff, Bonnie and Lynn Golden of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Clarence 
Simpson and wife, Eva, of New Bern and Durwood Simpson and wife, Marlene, 
of Livingston Park, Md.; two sisters, Sadie Paul and husband, Robert, of 
Grantsboro and Verna Mae Miller of Goose Creek, S.C.; 15 grandchildren, 18 
great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.  
Joyce was a member of Faith Christian Assembly of God. She was a much 
loved mother and grandmother and her greatest passion was her family. 
She was an avid quilter and up until she was no longer able to quilt, she 
presented each child, grandchild and great-grandchild with a beautiful 
quilt stitched with love and tenderness. She also loved to sew and crochet.
She was a true Christian woman in every sense of the word. She touched the 
lives of everyone she came in contact with. 
She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.  
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Faith 
Christian Assembly of God, 306 North, Grantsboro, NC with the Rev. Bob 
Case officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the
service at the church.
