ORIENTAL - Julia Mae Greene Cannon Dixon, 79, of 307 George Street, 
Oriental, died Saturday, June 7 at her residence. A funeral service will 
be held Thursday, June 12, 1 pm, at Pierce’s Chapel AME Zion Church in 
Oriental with the Rev. L.E. Chadwick, pastor, and the Rev. Farries Slade, 
eulogist. Burial will be in the Dozier Family Cemetery.  
She was a member of St. Mark Disciples Church in New Bern and was a 
deaconess, usher, mother and hospitality member of the church auxiliaries.  
She is survived by five sons, Edward Dixon of Hampton, VA, James Dixon Jr. 
of Holly Springs; Stanley T. Dixon of New Bern, Vincent Dixon of Bayboro, 
Kareem Edwards of Newport News, VA; one stepson, Earl Blango of Arapahoe; 
step-daughter, Geneva Styron of Oriental; two sisters, Flora Perry and 
Emma Greene, both of Oriental; 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 
and seven great-great-grandchildren.  
The family will receive friends at the residence. Viewing will be from 10 
am to 6 pm, Wednesday, June 11, at Oscar’s Mortuary, Inc. in New Bern.
