SMITHFIELD - Mrs. Kathryn "Kay" Midyette Hooks, 83, died in Smithfield 
Manor Tuesday following a period of declining health. 
She was a native of Oriental, a daughter of the late William Francis and 
Kate Pittman Midyette. 
She was the widow of Cullen D. Hooks who died in 1982. 
She was a graduate of Oriental High School and furthered her education at N
orfolk Business School and Kings Business College. She had been a secretary
with the North Carolina Utilities commission and the Johnston County Board 
of Elections and had worked as a legal secretary for several attorneys. 
She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. 
Surviving, brothers, William C. Midyette of Raleigh and Albert C. Midyette 
of Gaffney, SC. 
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Underwood Funeral Home. 
A private burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
