NEW BERN - Laura Johnson Smith, 76, of 4183 Academic Drive, died Wednesday,
June 22, 2011, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Arapahoe and a lifetime member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church.
Her funeral will be 1 p.m., Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Mt. Zion M.B. 
Church, Arapahoe, with the Rev. Keith Boomer, eulogist. The burial will 
follow in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her three sons, James Lee Smith of New Bern, Vanie 
Smith Jr. of Raleigh, and Millard Smith of New Bern; six daughters, 
Vandeline Smith-Henderson of Dale City, Va., Carrie J. Smith of New Bern, 
Rosa S. Mayfield of Oxon Hill, Md., Mary A. Smith of Ft. Washington, Md., 
Ruth O. Coward of Jacksonville, Fla., and Laura Hartley of New Bern; two 
brothers, Robert Davis of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Teamus Davis of New Bern; one 
sister, Mary Rivers of New Bern; sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great-
grandchildren.
