Obituary of Lendon Earl Barnes ~ 2009

Lendon Earl Barnes, 81, of Grantsboro, died Thursday, May 28, 2009, at home.  
He was an active member of Vandemere United Methodist Church. He was a 
proud member of the U.S. Air Force for 4 years, serving 3 in Korea and 1 
in Japan and 12 in the reserves. He retired from Spag's, Inc., in 
Shrewsbury, Mass., as manager of the electrical department. He was a master
mason receiving his 50-year service award and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite. 
He served 25 years as a member of the Sudan Shriners, Mourners and Pamlico 
Co. Shrine Club. He was a charter member of AARP, Pamlico Co. Chapter #4723, 
as well as a member of the American Legion and VFW. He delivered meals on 
wheels for 15 years. He enjoyed senior citizens trips, mowing grass and 
bird watching.  
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Andrew Barnes and Vera 
Barnes Jones, and brother, William Andrew Barnes Jr.  
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Priscilla I. Barnes; one son, David
E. Barnes and wife, Denise, of Holden, Mass.; three daughters, Barbara 
Verdini and husband, Henry, of Holland, Mass., Martha Grant and husband, 
Michael, of Shrewsbury, Mass., and Susan Barnes and special friend, Nick 
Karcasinas, of Oxford, Mass.; one brother, Frankie Barnes and wife, 
Barbara, of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Betty J. Purser of Bayboro; 
two sisters-in-law, Libby Barnes of Seymour, Tenn., and Mary Shapazian of 
Shrewsbury, Mass.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several 
cousins, nieces and nephews.  
To honor Lendon's wishes, there will be no services in Pamlico County. 
Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury, Mass., at a 
later date.
