Libby Woodard Delamar, 87, of Oriental, found peace on April 23, 2009.
Born Sept. 15, 1921, in Whortonsville, she was the daughter of Kaho and
Mary Curtis Woodard, and was preceded in death by her son, Ned Everett
Delamar III; six brothers, Glenn, Clyde, Alvin, Alec, Tillman and William
Kaho Woodard; and one sister, Stella Woodard Slade.
She is survived by her husband, Ned Everett Delamar of Oriental; son,
Dennis Woodard Delamar of Charlotte; daughter, Mary Delamar Flythe, and
husband, Michael Flythe, of New Bern; daughter-in-law, Joan Delamar
Gracie; grandchildren, John Hales Delamar of Oriental; Bill Flythe of
Wilmington, Emily Flythe of Raleigh, Elizabeth Crockett Henderson and
husband, Carl, of Swansboro; great-grandchildren, Caroline, John Crockett
and Annabelle Henderson of Swansboro.
Libby graduated from Oriental High School, class of 1938. She became a
licensed cosmetologist and worked as a beautician in Norfolk through
wartime. When the war ended, she married Ned on April 27, 1946, and moved
back to Pamlico County to Oriental. She and Ned created a comfortable
home, which has been a welcoming haven to all those who visit.
She loved her family and her friends deeply and let them know it every
chance she got. Her life centered around her children and her loved ones.
Her many nieces and nephews were also especially important to her, each
with a special relationship with "Aunt Libby" characterized by
unconditional love, acceptance and humor. In her final years when she
lost her sight, she was especially appreciative of her nephew, Paul
Delamar, who started her mornings with breakfast and laughter.
Libby was a member of the Oriental Methodist Church, where she was a
charter member of the Dorcas Circle, an organization of strong Oriental
ladies since 1956. Her family and friends honor and celebrate the
much-enjoyed life of a beautiful, gentle lady who leaves behind a legacy
of strength, patience, humor and love.
Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Oriental Methodist Church.
The service is at 3 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Walter Graves and
the Rev. Stan Brown officiating. A graveside service follows at the
Oriental Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are by Bryant Funeral Home & Cremations in Alliance.
