Obituary of Lila Blanche Taylor Pearce ~ 2001

LOUISBURG - Lila Blanche Taylor Pearce, 93, of 934 North Main Street, 
Louisburg, died early Friday morning at her home.  
Mrs. Pearce was born at Arapahoe Pamlico County, NC on December 5 1907. 
She was the daughter of Walter C. and Nola Lee Taylor.  
She was also the granddaughter of Joseph Bryan Lee and Phoebe Abigail 
Cayton Lee of Arapahoe. Mrs. Pearce was a descendant of the Lees of 
Tidewater, Virginia and eastern North Carolina. She was also a direct 
descendant of Joshua Taylor, Sr. of Carteret County, NC.  Mrs. Pearce 
graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1926. She graduated from North 
Carolina Woman's College in Greensboro in 1930 with a BS degree in home 
economics. She came to Franklin County in 1931 to teach home economics at 
Edward Best High School. 
She married Joseph A. Pearce of Louisburg in 1933.  
In the mid 1930's, Mrs. Pearce taught at Gold Sand High School. During the 
New Deal era, she worked for the Farm Security Administration. She also 
served as home demonstration agent in Stoke County as well as Franklin 
County and surrounding counties.  
From 1950 until 1963, Mrs. Pearce served as dietician at Louisburg College.
In 1964, she returned to the classroom, teaching home economics at 
Youngsville High School and later at Bunn High School, from which she 
retired in 1973. Mrs. Pearce was a charter member of Henry Lee Geneological
Society and also a member of the Joseph J. Davis Chapter of the United 
Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a longtime active member of the 
Louisburg United Methodist Church. 
Mrs. Pearce was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, David B. 
Taylor of Beaufort, NC and her husband, who died in 1963. 
Surviving are one son, Joseph A. Pearce, Jr. of the home; a niece, Mrs. 
Frances Lee White of Washington, DC; a nephew, David B. Taylor, II of 
Beaufort, NC and a great nephew Lee White of Cary, NC.  
The family will receive friends at all times at the home, 934 North Main 
Street, Louisburg.  
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2001, at 
Louisburg United Methodist Church.  
Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.  
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be 
made to the Organ Restoration Fund of the Louisburg United Methodist 
Church, P.O. Box 667, Louisburg, NC 27549.  
Arrangements are being handled by Lancaster Funeral Home, 804 N Bickett 
Boulevard, Louisburg, NC.
