Lois Gaskins Mayo Fentress Jones, 70, died Thursday at Craven Regional 
Medical Center.  
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bryant Funeral Home in 
Alliance. Burial will follow in Greenleaf Memorial Park.  
She is survived by her husband, Alfred D. Jones; son, William C. "Bill" 
Fentress of Wilson; daughter, Mary E. (Betty) Fentress of Morehead City; 
brothers, Hallett W. Mayo of Goldsboro, John A. Mayo Jr. of New Bern; 
sister, Mary Andrews of Virginia Beach, Va.  
She was born March 26, 1928 in Hobucken. She attended Atlantic Christian 
College, where she received a bachelors degree in Biology in 1949.  
She taught school at New Bern High School. She was co-owner of C.D. 
Fentress & Son Grocery and Farm in Maribel. She was a member of the VFW 
Auxiliary 8094, a member of the DAR, a member of the Alliance United 
Methodist Church, the Beaufort County Genealogical Society. 
As a genealogist, she co-authored a book in 1981, "Kissin' Cousins."  The 
family will receive friends at Bryant Funeral Home, 7-8 p.m. Friday and 
other times at the home.  
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alliance United Methodist 
Church or the Pamlico County Rescue Squad.
