Louise Muse, age 79, of the Pamlico community, died at her home on August 
25, 2005.
She was raised in the Pamlico community and graduated from Oriental School.
Afterwards she attended Louisburg College. Upon her graduation at age 
seventeen, she began work at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. When she 
returned to Pamlico County, she began her career at Tideland Electric 
Membership Corporation. At the time of her retirement from Tideland, she 
was the Director of Member Services.  
Ms. Muse was extremely active in the Pamlico County community, serving as 
an elected official, as an appointed member, and as a volunteer. She was 
elected for three terms as a Pamlico County Commissioner and served for a 
period of time as the chairperson. She also served on the State County 
Commissioner Board. Ms. Muse was an active participant on the Salvation 
Army Board; the Pamlico Partnership for Children; the N.C. State Board of 
Transportation; the Pamlico County Foundation for the Aged and various 
other Aging Committees; the Senior Tar Heel Legislative Committee; the 
Guardian ad Litem Program and as a school volunteer; the Neuse River 
Council of Government; and the Neuse Mental Health Board. Ms. Muse was 
very active in the state and local Democratic Party and served as 
chairperson of the Pamlico County Women's Democratic Party. She was quite 
proud to be known as a "Yellow Dog" democrat. 
At the time of her death, she was the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees 
at Pamlico Community College. She served on the Board of Trustees through 
the terms of three Pamlico Community College presidents. Ms. Muse was a 
life long member of Pamlico United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday 
school teacher, the superintendent, and treasurer.  
Ms. Muse's wish to donate her earthly remains for research to the Duke 
University Autonomy Program has been fulfilled. A Memorial Service 
celebrating her life will be held at Pamlico United Methodist Church on 
Saturday, August 27, 2005, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at 
the church one hour to the service and at other times at the Muse family 
home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pamlico United Methodist
Church Building Fund and sent to 345 Bell Point Road, Merritt, N.C. 28556, 
in care of Eloise Sos.  
Her sister, Helen Hudgins, and her brother, Carlton Muse, both of the 
Pamlico community, survive Ms. Muse. 
She is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews: Julia Spencer 
and husband, Jimmy; Osborne Hudgins and wife, Judy; Teresa Cooney and 
husband, John; and Suellen Muse; her great nieces and nephews: Helen 
Whealton and husband, Al; Cathie Hopkins; Talmadge Hudgins III and wife,
 Beth; John III and Bryant Cooney and Carly Ann Muse; her great-great 
nieces: Caroline Hughes; Darrow and Jordan Hopkins; Kali, Kari, and Morgan 
Hudgins and faithful friend and neighbor, Jeanette Miske. Her nephew, 
Carlton Muse Jr., preceded her in death.
