Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth Ralston Welch ~ 2006

MINNESOTT BEACH - Margaret Elizabeth Ralston Welch, 98, fondly known as 
“Maggie,” ended her earthly journey on Monday, November 13, 2006. 
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 24, at 
Pamlico Presbyterian Church, 1085 Kershaw Road, Oriental.  
Born July 15, 1908 in Richmond, Va., Maggie was the daughter of the late 
William Guy and Pearl Ralston. Maggie resided in High Point for most of 
her life. She worked as secretary to the president of a furniture 
manufacturer’s credit agency, parish secretary at St. Mary’s Episcopal 
Church and executive secretary for the American Cancer Society. Her 
community work included PTO president, precinct chair for the Board of 
Elections, and Meals on Wheels volunteer. She was a member of St. Mary’s 
Episcopal Church.  
In 1991, Maggie moved to Minnesott Beach. She was a member of St. Thomas 
Episcopal Church in Oriental and more recently became a member of Pamlico 
Presbyterian Church. She spent her final days being lovingly cared for by 
the staff of Britthaven of Pamlico.  
Maggie will be remembered by her family and friends as a grand and 
beautiful lady, strong and independent, a giving person full of 
intelligent conversation, with a twinkle in her eye as she laughed and 
joked. Maggie was artistic, a collector of many interesting things, and a l
over of flowers. She enjoyed music, and her favorite hymns were “Amazing 
Grace” and “In the Garden.”  
Maggie is survived by her son, Kenneth Welch and his wife, Christine, of 
Beverly Hills, Michigan; her daughter-in-law, Betty Welch of Minnesott 
Beach; four grandchildren, Linda Sanderson and husband Norman of Minnesott 
Beach, Sandy Barber and husband Grosvenor of Oriental, Guy Welch and wife 
Shellie of Atlanta, and Claire Ramstad and husband Trond of Oslo, Norway; 
four great-grandchildren, Jennifer Alcock and husband Frankie of New Bern, 
Lee Sanderson and wife Stephanie of Wilkesboro, Becky Barber of Oriental, 
and Elle Ramstad of Oslo, Norway; and two great-great grandchildren, Caleb 
and Joel Alcock of New Bern.  
She was preceded in death by her husband, Osmon Fletcher Welch, and her 
son, Ralston Fletcher Welch.
