Obituary of Dr Marion S Marny Muir ~ 2004

January 27, 1947-December 22, 2004.  Dr. Marion S. Marny Muir, marriage
and family therapist and community activist, died peacefully at home on 
Wednesday, December 22, 2004, in Oriental, NC. 
Her husband, Dr. Richard deCharms IV, and son, Dr. Richard Christopher 
deCharms, were in attendance. She was 57 and died of ovarian cancer. 
Born in January 1947 in Cincinnati, Marny attended Glendale elementary 
and graduated from Hillsdale School (now Seven Hills) in 1965. 
She graduated from American University in 1969, and received her PhD in 
educational psychology at Washington University in St. Louis. At 
Washington University, Marny served as director of residential life, 
director of The Learning Center, assistant to the provost, and instructor. 
She published many research articles and was on staff at Lutheran Family 
Services. In Pamlico County, NC, Marny was instrumental in founding and 
served as chair of the Board of Hope Clinic, providing free medial care. 
She also served as senior warden of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. In lieu 
of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hope Clinic, P.O. Box 
728, Bayboro NC 28515. A service will be held at St. Thomas Church in 
Oriental on Sunday, January 2 at 2 P.M., and later at Christ Church 
Glendale. Funeral arrangements are being made by Bryant Funeral Home at 
252-745-4966.
