Mrs. Mary Ann Price Guthrie, 95, a longtime resident of Fayetteville, died
Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at St. Joseph of the Pines Health System in
Southern Pines after battling Alzheimers disease for 12 years.
Born in Pamlico County on Aug. 14, 1910, she was the daughter of the late
Luther Lawrence and Lydia Francis Price. She was an active member of
First Baptist Church in Fayetteville for many years. She served on various
committees and taught the Fidelis Sunday school class for 35 years.
After raising three children, she fulfilled a keen interest she had in
business by becoming a Realtor. For some 25 years, she gained much
pleasure from this venture and received recognition and awards for her
efforts in this field.
Mrs. Guthrie was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, the Rev.
Walton B. Guthrie Sr., an ordained Baptist minister; a daughter, Mary
Louise Jersey Martin; a brother, Herman S. Price; and a sister, Lura B.
Hunnings.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at
Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel, 545 Ramsey St., by the Rev. A. Edward
Beddingfield. Burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey
Street.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral
home.
She is survived by her son, Walton B. Guthrie Jr. of Fayetteville; a
daughter, Alice Ann Maxwell and her husband, Jack C. Maxwell, of Sanford;
two granddaughters, Susan M. Weunski and her husband, Mike, of Sanford,
and Kathryn M. Galvin of Raleigh; a grandson, Lawrence L. Jersey and his
wife, Patricia, of Greeneville, Tenn.; a great-granddaughter, Mary Kathryn
Weunski; and four great-grandsons, Michael Price Weunski, Maxwell Paul
Weunski, Daniel Jersey and Dale Jersey.
