ORIENTAL - Maureen Davis Bivona, 71, died on February 10, at her home
surrounded in love by her daughters and close friends. Her granddaughter
Kelly said it best when she nominated her Grammy for a postage stamp in a
school essay. "My Grandma is a true hero. She taught her children
independence, the value of hard work, and the acceptance of all people.
My Grandma always said, Be ever mindful of those in greater need."
Throughout her battle with ovarian cancer, Maureen had the love and support
of her daughters and their husbands; Jeanine McGee, Maureen Mountcastle,
Denise and Neil "Buck" Buchanan, Colleen and Stephen Baybutt; her cousin,
Regina Davis Titus; and countless loving and kind friends.
She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Nicholas and Marley
Mountcastle, Justin, Kelly and Ryan Baybutt, Colleen and Pearson "Mac"
Buchanan, and Grace Lister, as well as her siblings and their spouses,
Janeen and Paul Boneker and Dick and Diane Davis. Maureen's parents, Grace
and George T. Davis, her son, Robert McGee, and her brother, Kevin Davis,
predeceased her.
Maureen was born in Bronx, NY, but spent the last 25 years in Oriental NC
after raising her five children on the shores of New Jersey.
Maureen was most recently honored when North Carolina Governor Bev Purdue
appointed her to serve on the Board for the NC Board of Licensed
Professional Counselors. Maureen lived very passionately and loved very
deeply. The town of Oriental turned out to be the true love of her life.
Sailing, traveling, sunshine, good food and the company of good friends
were the pleasures of her life.
Services will be held at St Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, (1149
White Farm Road Oriental, NC, 28571) on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 1 p.m.,
with the Reverend Paul Mizener. The family will receive friends immediately
following the service in the church hall.
Her daughters would like to sincerely thank the supportive people in
Oriental and at the Hospice of Pamlico County. God Bless you all. You are
forever in our hearts. Most of all, we want to thank God for the gift of
our Mother in our life. We believe that we will celebrate the treasure of
her love again, when we are in God's presence forever. May this truth
sustain us in the days to come.
Arrangements are by Bryant Funeral Home & Crematory, Alliance.
