McDonald N. Slade, 80, of the 6100 block of Knotts Creek Lane, a former 
resident of Merritt, N.C., died July 25 in Obici Hospital.  
Mr. Slade was a retired Merchant Marine seaman.  
He is survived by a daughter, Margaret S. Gutelius of Suffolk; two sisters,
Florence Moore and Lettie Mayo; and a brother, Mayhew Slade, all of 
Pamlico County, N.C.; three grandchildren; two nephews; and one niece.  
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Bethel Baptist 
Church in Merritt, N.C. Visitation will be today from 7 to 8 p.m. in 
Norris Funeral Home.
