GRANTSBORO - McVernon Prescott Jr., 75, of 1269 Prescott Road, died Monday,
Dec. 7, 2009, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.
He was a member of Broad Creek Christian Church where he served as an 
elder, a choir member, a Sunday school teacher and was chairman of the 
mission committee. He retired from Pamlico County High School after 37 
years as the Ag Teacher. He was actively involved in the FFA Alumni and 
was a past president of The Forestry Association of Pamlico County.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris W. Prescott; parents, McVernon 
Prescott Sr. and Grace Holton Prescott; and sister, Sarah Buck.
He is survived by three sons, McVernon Prescott III and wife, Lori M., of 
Grantsboro, Tim Prescott and wife, Darla, of Williamston, and David 
Prescott and wife, Lori J., of Winston-Salem; one daughter, Ruth P. Clark 
and husband, Eddie, of Greensboro; two brothers, Larry and Jerry Prescott, 
both of Grantsboro; and eight grandchildren, Erica Grace Prescott Henthorn,
McVernon Prescott IV, Taylor Prescott, Blaine Prescott, Jordan Prescott, 
Daniel Prescott, Will Clark and Katie Clark.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Broad Creek 
Christian Church with Jeff Swain, Eddy Gabbert and Chuck Holton officiating. 
Burial will follow in Sandhill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, in the old 
sanctuary at Broad Creek Christian Church and at other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorial contributions be made to
Broad Creek Christian Church Mission Fund, 45 Olympia Road, New Bern, NC 
28560.
