REELSBORO - Mildred Hines Reel Buck (Mimi), died Friday at the home of her 
daughter in New Bern.
Her daughters, Emily and Linda, and son-in-law, Dick, were with her at her 
peaceful death, which followed a lengthy illness.
She was the daughter of the late Floyd Hines Reel and Emily Elizabeth 
Brinson Reel.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene "Gene"; her son, 
Gene Raymond; a sister, Kathleen Curtis; and a brother, Floyd H. Reel, Jr.
The greatest of her legacies was her great love of her family.
She had a profound appreciation for history; genealogy became her passion 
and she spent most of her life researching her and her husband's ancestors.  
She was born February 20, 1914 in Reelsboro, which was named for her family, 
and lived most of her life there.
Her love of community, especially Reelsboro, was so evident that she wrote 
a book so that the history of this little community would be passed on to 
future generations.
She also handscribed and published the Pamlico County Marriage Licenses 
1872-1940, as well as the history of the Reelsboro Methodist Church.
She was Registrar of the Reelsboro Precinct for 25 years.
She was a very active member of the Pamlico County Democratic Party and 
held the office of Vice Chairman for four years.
She was one of the founders and charter members of the Pamlico County 
Historical Society.
She was a member of the Reelsboro United Methodist Church and a 50-year 
member of the Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughters, Emily Buck Scoppe and son-in-law, Richard
"Dick" Scoppe, of New Bern, N.C., and Linda Buck Walker and son-in-law, 
James Howard Walker of Vancouver, Washington; four grandchildren: Douglas 
Woolard, Vicki Hacker and husband Lash, Stephen Walker, and Erik Walker; 
step-granddaughter, Lisa Lewis; four great-grandchildren, Cynthia Woolard, 
Ashley Walker, Ashley Woolard and Daniel Hacker; five step-grandchildren; 
nine step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren and 
many special nieces and nephews.
Her love of history and community touched the lives of many locally and 
from across the country.
Visitation will be at Bryant Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
Funeral will be at Reelsboro United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, 
with Rev. Randy Field officiating.
Interment will follow at Sandhill Cemetery.
